The Illinois Academy of Physician Assistants (IAPA) is legislatively engaged on both the state and national levels. IAPA collaborates with state partners as well as our national organization, the American Academy of Physicians (AAPA) to advance legislation protecting our patients and practice. The information to the right provides information about current legislation being tracked and on our policy agenda. Please contact IAPA at [email protected] for more information.

Currently, IAPA is focusing its advocacy efforts on the impactful new Access for PAtients Act. The bill creates legislative parity between PAs and NPs in Illinois and removes the requirement of a Written Collaborative Agreement after initial clinical practice, allowing employers to determine PA utilization at the practice level. Illinois PAs will have parity with NPs in the job market; Illinois will retain resident PAs and current PA students; Illinois will attract PAs to the state; and the care gap in Illinois will directly benefit.
