If you have been delegated Schedule II Controlled Substances prescriptive privileges and are registering through the DEA website, BE SURE TO CLICK privileges for Schedule II and II-N, if needed. There have been numerous reports throughout the State of Illinois involving PAs writing scripts for II-N and have not signed up for the privilege. Check your DEA license. If it states II-N on the license, you may write for the Schedule II non-narcotics substances. If it does not have II-N on your DEA license, then you must re-register through the www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov.
Please remember that PAs obtaining Schedule II Controlled Substances can ONLY write for 5 substances. These 5 substances should be written down and attached to your supervisory agreement.
Also, a reminder, the supervising physician's name MUST appear on all prescriptions. The supervising physician's name can be imprinted, hand-written, or stamped on the script.
If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact the IAPA office at 800-975-9344.
